Updates on the Athletics - Sutter Health + Vegas
The Athletics are making Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento their temporary home for the next three seasons as they await their move to Las Vegas. With a capacity of just over 14,000, the ballpark offers a much more intimate setting compared to the Oakland Coliseum’s 63,000 seats.
Those 14,014 seats should be plenty, though, as the average home attendance in Oakland in 2024 was around 6,000 -- with the cavernous stadium generally 90% empty.
The Athletics should expect near-sellouts for the majority of the season, with marquee games expected to have very high secondary-market prices.
The Ass will play at Sutter Health Park for three seasons (2025–2027) while awaiting the completion of their new ballpark in Las Vegas, which is expected to open for the 2028 MLB season, although they have an option for a fourth season in case the Vegas park isn't ready.
They will be sharing Sutter Health with the Sacramento River Cats, which will be playing their full home schedule at the ballpark as the AAA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. One of the reasons the Athletics ended up in Vegas (and Sacramento) is because the Giants had fought the A's expanding into San Jose or the South Bay. It was a pretty bitter and intense fight, so it's interesting to see the Giants now working with the A's on this solution.
The A's have built their own dedicated major-league clubhouse at the park, so they will not be sharing the River Cats' clubhouse.

The Athletics’ move to Las Vegas is making steady progress. The team has unveiled plans for a 30,000-seat ballpark on the Tropicana site along the Las Vegas Strip, with an estimated $1.75 billion price tag.
In a major step forward, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority has approved key agreements, including lease terms, non-relocation commitments, and development plans. Construction is set to begin in Q2 of 2025, with the stadium expected to be ready for the 2028 MLB season.
