Raynor Society - Ocean Links Women's (light)

$35

The life of the nine-hole Ocean Links was a short one. It opened in 1921 and closed in 1931, the result of the death of owner and founder T. Suffern Tailer. It was reopened as a public golf course in 1940 but lasted only two seasons.

Bordering Newport (R.I.) Country Club, Ocean Links was a collaboration between Seth Raynor and Charles Blair Macdonald. Raynor was the designer of record and Macdonald consulted. Macdonald was impressed enough with the layout that he and three friends took take a power yacht from Long Island to the official opening.

While eight of the holes had their inspiration from similar designs on courses in the U.S. and Scotland, the ninth was unique to itself. The first rendition of Raynor’s Prize Dogleg stood at 460 yards. It had par of four and a bogey of 6.
