Raynor Society - Lido Links Women's (light)

$35

The Lido was the most audacious golf course project of its day when it opened in 1920 on the south shore of Long Island. Two million cubic yards of sand were pumped from the ocean floor to fill in swampland and allow Charles Blair Macdonald to create the stunning layout. It was Seth Raynor who oversaw the dredging and construction with Macdonald calling it Raynor’s finest achievement.

The 18th hole was designed by Alister Mackenzie who won a contest sponsored by the English magazine Country Life to earn the honors. The fourth, the Channel Hole, a par-5 of 510 yards, had an island alternate fairway.

There was also the familiar hole designs such as Punchbowl, Road, Eden, Short, Redan and Biarritz

Unfortunately, the layout suffered under poor ownership and the course was abandoned by the end of the 1950s.
